My experience on the AVATAR advanced motion technology

In exactly 15 days, I'll be back to Hong Kong! Yippie~ I miss my 二叔公(grand uncle) and my 二叔婆(grand aunt). I have not seen them for 5 years... My grand uncle is my late grandfather's younger brother, mother's side.

And he's definitely one of the born-an-artist in my family. My grandfather too. These are some of his masterpiece, which the souvenir and toy manufacturer in Hong Kong do mass production using his prototype. He reminds me much of my grandfather, and I miss my grandfather badly...

He wrote a book too, on how to draw a potrait (怎样画人物头像素描), but it still remained unpublished until today. I believe that to get this published is one of his biggest dreams, and how I wish I can help him fulfill that... To get a book published in Hong Kong is not that easy, there are so much complicated stuffs especially on the copyright issues. Is any publisher interested here?

*************************************************************************
Hong Kong, I've been there twice, and in another 15 days, it's gonna be my third. Few days ago I received an email from my ex uni mate on the Advanced Motion Technology used in making the movie AVATAR. Well we've came across this 6 years back during our exchange program in Hong Kong.

See the cameras? Those are stationery cameras which could record the movements of all actors at once in 3D, with submillimeter precision. Data from the cameras was streamed into Autodesk software, which translates actors’ movements into digital characters in real time within a low-resolution computer-generated environment. Read this.

It's the same like in this photo. Spot the cameras at the back? My friend Chuan tried the suit and did some dance moves. I think I should have recorded a short video clip but I couldn't find it...*sigh*.

Development... From this,

to this!

At that time, we could only imagine funny things like replacing the 3D character with a dinosaur and while we're dancing, instead of us appearing on the screen, we see the dinosaur dancing.

Some advance technologies that we learned years back has become a hot topic (hot stuffs at most of the times started from movies isn't it?) and big application. I'm glad that we took initiative to go beyond the 'era' that time. =)

Those were the days of wonders during schooling time. No regret and I miss you guys, my ESOSSians. ESOSS EXCELLENT!!

Blabbing . travelling . working

My next aim -- Taj Mahal. I know we all dreamed to go there. I trust my team mates, we will go there alright!

The Mausoleum of the Taj Mahal (Wikipedia)

15 more days to decide if we make it through for this year. Oh... I hope I'm already saying "See you in Agra!", just like I said "See you in Siem Reap!" and "See you in Marrakech!" last year.

Time flies. When I told mom the competition is up again in few weeks' time, she was a bit shocked... "Wow!! What a dynamic year had passed." she said to me. Though I have tighter budget for travelling this year, but I always fight seriously for the rewarding trips besides working. Wish me luck again for this year.

*************************************************************

Now I really really gotta spend more time to complete the previous travelogs before another journey. Had come back from Vietnam since Feb'09 yet I have not completed the posts on Hanoi and Halong Bay... Looks like I will need to increase my blogging speed.

Friend visiting from U.S.!

Finally Jayant's coming to Penang! This time he's my guest. And my turn to bring him around Penang. However I'm still hoping that I'm the one who travels to U.S. for business trip.

At first I was excited when he told me that he's going back to India for X-mas vacation with his wife after the business trip ends... because I thought of buying flight ticket and fly there with my baby to join them.

Wild dreams...WAKE UP larrrr!!! Pocket running out of $$ recently...

Maybe I should paint Taj Mahal on the wall in my little library. Next round maybe. Next round.

Dreaming of the desert and Big Ben

Just finished another engineering report...AGAIN??
Yep another, a day after I finally closed my Green Belt -- GRADUATED!~
Good things are coming through, flights are booked, Morocco VISA on the way, and I'm flying again to the World Finals on 8th June!
This time it's gonna be a looonnnngggg trip of 10 days and I can't wait another week (although it's just another 9 days)!!
6 days in Marrakech, 2 and a half days in London - WONDERFUL~

bUt... oopss LOOK AT THE WEATHER!!!

Gosh I needa squeeze my luggage again...?? Sunblock + shawl at the same time? Kidding huh?!

Anyway it's gonna be a fun fun fun, nothing but FUN event - Philips Lighting's biggest annual event. Can't wait to see Evy again there. Camel riding in the desert perhaps. And yeah, of course -- BELLY DANCING!~

Without realizing or even planned, I've nearly travelled across the earth from east to west in just 3 months. From Penang to San Jose in my last trips, then this coming trip Penang to London, London to Casablance, Casablanca to Marrakech. =)

Smiles of the champion through the lens of Simon Toffanello

Princess Cheryl's thought of the day:- It's already 5 days but still we are still as excited as 5 days before. Next challenge is to fight till the end... TO MARRAKECH!!

Natural shots from our event photographer Simon.

Last but not least, I didn't realized that he shot me!

Angkor Wat we're coming!

So long we have waited...and finally the time has come! 8 hours later we'll be flying off to Siam Reap for the Philips Lighting QIC 2009 Regional Semi Finals~ After winning the local finals, we had thrown in so much effort until the last minute before we left the company just now.

"There's no easy way to victory." But I believe we always make wonders. Let's keep up the DF spirit and try our best to make it to Marrakech, Morrocco!!

Just done packing my stuffs. And here's one of the must bring item tomorrow morning. My boarding pass. Gonna be a fun yet hectic day tomorrow preparing for the real competition on Friday.

Another mileage created. I'm proud of myself... =) Hopefully we can bring back the trophy and another 8 tickets to Marrakech on Friday. Just can't wait to see ANGKOR WAT!!!

Engineer babe...not that easy...

2pm in a Saturday afternoon... WHAT AM I DOING??!! Still working lo...
Most girls must have gone for shopping spree in the weekend, yet I'm still sitting in the living room swallowing my McD while rushing for my GB report..duh...

5 minutes of break to write this post just to release some tension. My schedule is so damn full since Jan'09. Another 4 more days then I'll be flying to Singapore for meeting, then fly back the next day. And then fly to Cambodia in another 14 days after coming back from Singapore.. Can I have 48hours a day please??

Basically this is my schedule up to Sept'09 this year... Pink = travel dates (work+meeting); Blue = special occasions; Green = tentatively travel dates...

"...you look like a movie star..." Yes we do!!

"Honey honey, touch me, baby, ah-hah, honey honey
Honey honey, hold me, baby, ah-hah, honey honey
You look like a movie star
I know just who you are..."

Finally the 4-month-well-kept-secret is revealed! On 28th March 09, 1400 people were laughing their lungs out while watching the 16 minute movie starring the so-called 7 PLLM movie stars. We had tonnes of surprises throughout the whole appreciation dinner but our slot was the biggest surprise of the night. Been pretending and showing the "I AM NOT INVOLVED IN ANY PERFORMANCE AT THE DINNER" face for so long and gosh...it's really suffering if you cannot tell your best buddies about something that you feel so excited over..

2 months before we spent a whole 10 hours for the movie shooting and got it done in a day! Man that's quite a miracle you know. Even the camera crew did not have confidence that we could finish within a day. Been travelling from South to North of Penang island for the scenes.

What's worse was we were in full disguise and wearing funny clothings. However I love my "wizard Hermioni" image a lot a lot.. Maybe I should really join the Halloween party this year, appearing as a witch.

Peter, who is the brainchild of this whole production handed over a copy to our VP Jascha right after the movie ended.

It was not an Oscar red carpet event but somehow we were called up to the stage. Thank you my A* fellowship members. I finally had a chance to fulfill one of the wildest dreams - be a star. Although it's short enough to have just one minute on the stage, but we had created something "never before possible" in the history of our company's annual dinner.

Good job, Peter, Scott, Wignes, Loga, Benny, Meera and Telly! Another play for next year's dinner?? Hahha...well, one thing that I'm very sure of right now -- teasing from the colleagues is not over yet!

Flying again

This time...by MAS... Been rushing a lot boarding a flight to and fro PG-KUL right after work to get my U.S. VISA. Snapped through the window seat during take off from KL.

This is the only photo that I love. Snapped through the window of my room in Renaissance Hotel.

San Jose here I come!! Glad that my SJ counterparts are ready with the itinerary to tour around San Francisco, even with their families. Thank you guys~ I really need a free ride and a guide due to very very tight budget -- heavy travelling throughout Q1 & Q2. My mentors teased me that I'm as busy as them. Well, the U.S. folks are not that cold afterall like what most of my colleagues claimed to be; they can be hospitable at times too, depends on how we treat each other. I always believe that I have the warmth to melt the iceberg -- through sincere partnership in work and hospitality.

Till then, see you all in WW11 - Eugene, MG and Serge. Would like to extend my stay but however I need to get back to Penang for I have commitment in our Appreciation Dinner. Biggest surprise awaits...

My Name's on Hall of Fame

This is a big surprise to me!!! What is your reaction if you see your name scribed on the 'Hall of Fame' when you pass the entrance to your office?? I would say it's one of the best things that happened in my life! I mean, my career, my first job in my first company. =) And we're going to Siem Reap in May, hopefully we'll be adding another line in the Milestone column soon...

Back to the QIC Appreciation Dinner, I never felt so wild and free. Even in the uni days where we had ball nights, I used to be as careful as possible. But this was a special night to all of us, so how could we waste it?! Never been at so damn center of the attraction among all dinners that I've attended. And I was being put onto the stage (in Chinese: 摆上台)...

Even the guys also kena bomb..

Nice was being voted as finalists of best dressed, but the truth was to entertain the crowd. So, there we were, 6 of us had to pretend to be the top models of PLLM... Gosh..

So we started off with Noel on the red carpet...

Then Saw...

And up next Scotty, or our Daniel Craig of PLLM... (not bad to have 007 working in my company huh).

Then followed by the ladies...Choon Im...

Me...well I always like #2.

And then Hui Shi.

Wanna take more glance on my moves? It's been 8 years since I last did my catwalk in the public. I was involved in the fund raising event for my graduation magazine back in the high school years. Only did it once without any training, and now...again...but just for laughs.

See? I myself was also laughing...couldn't help it!!

I like to move it move it...do we call this the flying hair effect??

Ok, another one. If I could look this slim from all angles for sure I'd be happier...

I love this angle.

Pretending to be a little professional.

Giving a last turn before up to the stage again.

Mamma mia...here I go again...

Then continued was the couple walk. We requested for the guys to walk together as the audience were complaining that the guys did better and hotter than the girls.

Fun was all night long!! I just love to hear laughters all around, especially after months of hard work and tension. There goes my Die Fab team!! Champions. =)

Oh yea, and who at the dinner would wanna miss a chance to take a photo with him...my VP. ;p Do you think he looks more like a celebrity than a VP?
