Seafood @ Restoran Lucky, Ipoh

I have a lot of food review yet to write... Not much time after working because darn tired. Today I'm gonna continue with another food review on a hidden gem. =) This restaurant serves really superb seafood dishes. It's quite different with seafood cuisine in Penang because in Penang we get to eat fresh seafood, most of the time the focus is only the seafood itself.

P1160416

P1160415

While this restaurant serves main course dishes cooked with seafood. Main course dish means seafood cooked with rice or noodle. This restaurant was recommended long ago but I don't think many people from outstation know about it. The boss is my uncle's friend.

P1160387

Always almost full house. Because restaurant only opens until 3.30pm. Not on business for dinner...too bad.

P1160382

You can order by looking at the photos on the side wall. Those are highly recommended.

P1160404

Ok cut it short, here's our first dish -- Golden porridge (黄金粥). Why called golden porridge?

P1160372

It's cooked with baby abalone!! Lots and lots of baby abalone!

P1160373

Sluurrrpp!~

P1160377

Second dish -- Prawn dumpling (虾丸).

P1160378

Fresh prawn wrapped in dumpling skin. Sweet and juicy.

P1160379

Vegetable (油菜). This is Kai Lan.

P1160392

Prawn noodle (生虾面). Boiling~ boiling~

P1160394

Big big prawn. =)

P1160398

Big one!

P1160401

Steam handmade fish ball (蒸丸). Springy and juicy. (^.")

P1160396

Now the bill. Don't be surprised....the price is higher compare to what you expect. But you really pay for the quality of food. My baby said this shop only serves the best and the expensive dishes. Quite true also. Hahah... but I think what you paid is worthwhile for the taste.

P1160403

The boss, 张家辉 (prounounced as Cheung Ka-Fai, same as the HK comedian who just won the Best Actor).

Foh San Dim Sum, Ipoh

Princess Cheryl's thought of the day:- Lazy weekend. StarWalk tomorrow but I'm not going since need a little more rest for my toes.

What is Ipoh's famous food? First thing that comes to your mind will be beansprout chicken (芽菜鸡), then secondly Foh San dim sum (富山点心). Right? So today I'm gonna post the food review on Foh San Dim Sum which had expanded their business recently and had moved to a new shop in the town. This area seems to have gathered most of the delicious and recommended dim sum shops and now it's referred as the "dim sum street" by the locals.

The biggest dim sum shop in the street is of course Foh San.

P1160163

They have even a "Take Away" department. Departmental dim sum house. =p This is good for lazybones like me who usually sleep until 11am in the weekends.

P1160164

The main entrance.

P1160167

Nice interior. Grand feeling. And same as the price.

P1160173

Staircase up to the next floor.

P1160171

Famous food outlets are usually full most of the time. No exception for this one.

P1160176

Table setting for eating Chinese dim sum (info for the foreigners). First they serve the tea. The waiter/waitress will ask you to choose from the menu what type of Chinese tea you want. And the tea cups are soaked in hot water for strerilization purpose.

P1160180

Each person gets a small plate, a pair of chopstick and chili sauce. Dim sum has a large variety. Each plate is usually meant for sharing among 2 or 3 people. That's why you can order up to 10 types of dim sum. That's great isn't it.

P1160188

The waitress will push the dim sum cart around for customers to choose. Different dim sum cart serves different types of dim sum. Some are steamed, some are fried, some serves only dumplings (pao), while some are special dishes of the day.

P1160178

For example, this one serves fried dim sum.

P1160179

Now showing the food we ordered. Chee-cheong-fun.

P1160183

Ha-kao (prawn).

P1160190

Prawn Siew-mai (basic type of dim sum which I like the most).

P1160189

Yu-tan (fish ball).

P1160191

Forgot what is this called.

P1160193

Chicken leg.

P1160196

Chao-kou (fried carrot cake).

P1160195

Ha-kuen (fried prawn roll).

P1160211

Wu-kok (fried yam ball).

P1160216

While these are deep fried with different sweet fillings.

P1160215

One thing I don't quite like about this place is there are too many customers and the serving is slow. FURTHERMORE THE FOOD ARE NOT HOT ENOUGH WHEN SERVED. Another thing if you see from the photo, it's not that hygienic if you keep your food at the lower tier of the cart so near to the floor without any cover!! You know how easily dust can fly and stick on the food.

P1160206

If you ask me how nice is the dim sum, I rate them B+. I can't understand why so many people love to eat in this shop since the food is only so so. It's true that fame brings wealth and higher popularity. Especially if you are a tourist and you only have very limited time to taste the local food, you will certainly choose the popular one.

However, if you have chance or have not tried the other dim sum shops yet, I recommend you to go to the shop opposite called 名阁 (prounounced as Ming-kok). They serve even more delicious dim sum but pity that I did not bring my camera along when I go there everytime. Else I can also write a review on that. Maybe next round.
