We were entertained by a group of Apsara dancers before the welcoming dinner of QIC Regional Semi-Finals. Scroll down the pictures for a quick glance of Apsara dance movements. I did not captured any video because I was quite in a mess after the interactive games for deciding sequence of presentation the next day. In one of the rounds, both my high heels were lended for fulfilling the actions on stage. Then I stood bare footed on the soil for 10 minutes...
If you notice, the costume for performing an Apsara dance is not simple at all, the dancers have to prepare the items below --
- Crown (Mekot)
- Apsara Blouse and Skirt
- Decorative Papaya Flowers (Lbak Pka Somyong)
- Flowers Worn on Ears and Dangling Earrings
- Collar (Sarong Kor)
- Belt and Wrist Jewelry (Gong Dai)
- Ankle Jewelry (Gong Cheung)
- Sangva and Golden Flower
Indeed, it's not just a dance but a symbol of the Khmers, just like our Lion Dance, or tarian Mak Yong, or the Balinese Kecak Dance.
Meanwhile, I was doing my own Apsara Dance in the afternoon too... =p
