Cina Muslim Restoran @ QuarterMile (CMR)

The last time that I had Muslim food out of Malaysia was in Shenzhen. The Muslim food that I'm referring to is non-Malaysian Muslim food. And please don't be surprise, there are a lot of Muslims in China. It's religion, not about race ok. And I love their cuisine! Superb.

So here's a newly opened Muslim food restaurant right here in Penang, with Chinese chef from China. It is absolutely halal, so for the Malays, this is a new place to explore halal food in Penang.




Some intro on CMR... (copied from the mini menu that the boss gave me)
"Malaysia is a multi-racial country, with the uniqueness requirement in foods and drinks, CMR has started the first China Muslim restaurant in Penang to enable all classes and races of people to enjoy their dinner together. The restaurant Chinese cuisine is "Qing Zhen" (Halal) using all Halal materials and cook by Muslim Chefs from the Ningxia Muslim Autonomous Region of China. NingXia is the most dense populated Muslim area.
CMR Restaurant provides all types of banquet dinner for all occations; such as wedding, birthday, company functions and etc. CMR also emphasizes in food quality, specialty and provides excellent services to all customers."




Here are some recommended dishes to try out. I would say the price is reasonable. Price per dish ranging from RM6-RM30 for normal dinner, unless you want some special order which may require pre-booking 1 day earlier.

I ordered this as I really missed the mutton I had in Shenzhen, hoping that this one can satisfy my taste buds.

Chinese Napa in Hot Oil, Garlic & Chili.




Fried String Bean with Chicken Minced.




Quick Boiled Fish with Special Sauce --- MUST TRY!! Something special which we seldom get to taste in Malaysia Chinese cuisine.




Personally I like this one very much. The Chinese Napa. It's a little spicy, having my favorite Chili as garnish. Attractive




Special Deep Fried Mutton Chop. Too dry though... will taste better if it's more juicy.




String bean. Nice.




And this. The fish. Normally we eat steam fish, this is cooked in a different way - quick boil. The fish is sliced into pieces, boiled and then arranged back to the shape of a fish, together with its head.

LOLIPOT - Localize Shabu Shabu

I've dined in twice, because the buffet is very worthwhile and food tastes good. Localize Shabu Shabu with a very candy name - LOLIPOT. When I mentioned it fast, some people thought it's LOLIPOP. =P It's located at Bay Avenue, near Terminal One, entrance opposite OXO, and needless to say, very near to Queensbay Mall and Eastin Hotel.




Loads of choices up to tens of types of fish/meat balls, vegetables, organs,and mussels too! I love mussels~




Anything that you want to eat, just reach out to that conveyor belt in front/beside your seat, it's exactly like dining in Sushi King or Sakae Sushi.




Nice interior, clean and cozy. They have big round tables for big groups too.




Snap during my first visit, a farewell lunch for my colleague. Reflection of me with someone's i-Phone.




These are the one time order that LOLIPOT offers to every customer. They're nice, especially the fried tofu.








There are 3 choices of soup -- tomyam, clear soup, and milk + rice wine soup. I ordered milk + rice wine soup in both visits. Just love the taste, I craze for dairy products, including milk/cream base soup.

First visit. I kind of dumped everything in. But that's not the right way to enjoy shabu shabu...


Second visit. The manager recommended that I add in yam to thicken the soup, and also add in some garlic oil.



Can you spot the difference of the enoki mushroom on left and right??



The most worthwhile part of the whole buffet is not the food on conveyor, but the meat slices! Waiter/waitress will come to you and ask if you want some beef slices, lamb slices or pork slices. You can order as much as you want, I had 2 plates... just for myself lol..




Slurrrp~ That's the only expression I can think of -- SLUURPPP!




Ahemm... We made a few towers like this...




One of the reason I like about buffet is because they serve ice-cream. It seems like I'm always the one who eats the most scoop...

Eighteen Wine & Dine - My Christmas Eve

*Ceased operation.

While everyone else was busy with their make-up and still couldn't make up their mind that which dress should they wear for the X-mas eve dinner, we went right to one of our favorite place for our X-mas eve dinner. Indeed, it's Eighteen!




Red Wine for the night. Should be Merlot, with a pinch of cherry-like sweetness.




Cheers for Christmas! It's my final year Christmas celebration as a bachelorette. =P

Maybe I've been growing older since then, I no longer like to squeeze into the big crowds where countdowns and happening parties take place... All I wish for Christmas is just a romantic dinner spent with my love one, or a warm house party with friends and family. I guess I'll be able to host a small party next year when the garden is done. Ryan's Gourmet - Western, Italian, authentic Thai and local delights

I get to know about Ryan's Gourmet through MyDeal.com.my. I knew it's worth a try, and MUST try when you only have to pay RM10 for a 5 course Western Set Meal!! (Normal price RM17.50 for lunch or dinner dine in, not expensive though.




This cozy restaurant is conveniently located at Farquhar Street (MWE Plaza), if the street name puzzles you, probably you're more familiar with where Bayview Hotel is, or Slippery Senoritas, or MOIS. Ryan's Gourmet is just steps away from The Garage building and also Bayview Hotel. Probably you can eat there after visiting Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion too, just somewhere opposite across the street.




Here's what our 5 Course Western Set Meal includes:

3. Main (we ordered 3 different main course out of 5 choices)

Basically it's too worthwhile to pay ONLY RM10 for this set meal, although next time I need to pay RM17.50 because the promotion is over (I hope they offer other sets again @ MyDeal.com.my). I'm going to dine in again, the food is good, and I guess this is what I'm going to try next time -- Ryan's Roast Beef Thai Style, it looks delicious~



More over -- it’s a Wifi Zone! The environment is OK to me, because it's not noisy and I don't feel like eating in a typical local restaurant here, feels more like going on a holiday.

I see they offer special Holiday Set Meal too, with a glass of wine on top of the set meal. Price is reasonable. So you may give it a try on X-mas or New Year Eve.
