If you never cherish how beautiful our country's beaches are, then you should start to explore the coastlines of Malaysia. "Malaysia Truly Asia", that's not just a slogan. If you happen to watch the publicity video clips on Malaysia's tourism in foreign countries, then you will only realized how much you have missed.
Of course, the most beautiful islands and beaches are still located at the East coast and in Borneo, and no doubt the sandy beaches are superb when I've visited Redang Island in years back, but Langkawi is also a heaven for short weekend getaway. Especially for youngsters gathering or outing, it's definitely a heaven!
W-H-Y??
Imagine if you only have to pay for RM1.50/can of beer... ISN'T THAT MARVELLOUS??!!!USD 50 CENTS ONLY for a can of beer! That means you can cut cost by 4x for your party on the drink. *wink wink*
Now you know why I called our trip as the 'Liquor Escapade'... we started drinking from the moment we landed on Langkawi lolz. The guys started acting nutz after 2 hours (dare not post all the candid photos else I'll be killed by them). Our drunken festival lasted for 3 days, and we not only just drank there in the island, but we also bought the max allowable duty free liquor per pax.
First day Chapter 1 - Oriental Village + Langkawi Cable Car Ride
Our proposal for this wacky drunken festival started back in 2 months. There was one night on the holiday eve we went to KK's house (alcohol party again), and someone suggested that we should go to Langkawi for a short getaway together...with the beer and whisky of course!
That morning was the first time I witnessed the sunrise at QEII (the Penang jetty). Darn beautiful!!!
Morning with a splash of romance. But it all disappeared immediately once I hear the laughter of the gang. Jeez...
We had breakfast near the Clan Bridges and then walked to Swettenham Pier to board the ferry. Good distance walking to digest the food in order to keep anyone of us from producing 'hu chi' (sharkfin soup) on the ferry later.
Alas, the new Swettenham Pier! 3 years back we were still squeezing at the old entrance to board the ferry. That was awful because that place stinks..(refer to picture #1, 3 & 4 here in my last trip). It's so much difference now, and I love this place very much. Weeks ago Queen Mary II also parked at this jetty. Penang's tourism had boosted alot since 2 years ago. Not just another Heritage town but also the gateway to many places, including Langkawi.
Enjoying the salty sea breeze at the upper deck.
Reaching Langkawi. Some snapshots I have never done before. Taken from the cabin window. Feels like looking through the glass in a submarine?
The Eagle Square, right beside the jetty.
After few cans of beer upon check-in...
First station we went to the Oriental Village for the cable car ride.
A group of alcoholics!!!
Beautiful lake in the middle of Oriental Village.
Love the contrast. Taken with my Lumix FS3.
Before sunburn.
Here we go!
Breathtaking scenery from Gunung Mat Cincang. There are 2 stations to stop by. This is the first one, at 625m above sea level, also known as the intermediate station. Visitors will be able to alight and walk up to the viewing platforms. You can enjoy panoramic view of 360degree.
Afterwards we boarded back the gondola, for another 450 meters up to the top station at 710m above sea level.
Where you can take a walk on the 125m curve platform of the Hanging Bridge. It was opened to public on 27th February 2005, and it won a few recognition awards for the incredible design too!
Do apply sunblock before you come up here. Very strong UVA & UVB to make you sunburn within half an hour.
Enjoying spectacular 360degree panoramic views of the Langkawi islands on the Hanging Bridge.
Happy to be up there! Now I realized I brought the wrong sunshade....not matching with my retro cap... =(
Mountain view. The guys named it "Gunduma Hill". Only our gang understands the meaning. =p
Back to the base station after an hour. Super dupa hot! Time for cold beer again. Heeeheee... That's why I said it's a liquor escapade.
Now, the panaromic wallpaper (click to enlarge and save) as a gift for you. Thanks for reading!
