Let's Triporama!

Let me introduce you one of my favourite webtool - Triporama!

Triporama is the free trip planner & travel guide for groups.

I found this one day when I was searching for a program to organize my coming Phuket escapade at download.com. All the while I never really faced trouble with travelling because all my previous trips only involved my dear & myself, our family members, close friends/coursemates (the staying near to each other ones), or my colleagues.

This Phuket trip is causing me headache because it involves 3 couples staying in different places! Hmm...Firstly Ethan/Michelle, although also staying in Penang, but due to Ethan's job (heavy travelling), we seldom have chance to meet up, and the last time I saw him was during his wedding; then Philip/Angela, this 2 are my friends from Hong Kong, and the last time I met Philip was back in year 2005 when we went for a drink at Knutsford Terrace when we were in Hong Kong! So it's really tough to be able to really have an organized discussion, even through email you'll find it hard to update and record everything. MSN? Yea, we're using that all the while, but it's only to finalize and confirm things on the spot. But luckily I have Triporama to the rescue!

Ok, cut the craps. This is how it works:

1) Register a new account, fill up your details.

2) Click on "Group Trip Planner" and click "Create a new group trip".
Group Trip Planner Features:

  • Store and share travel research

  • Create an itinerary

  • Manage invitations

  • Organize and assign tasks

  • Conduct a date poll

  • Post and review messages

  • Coordinate travel details

3) Follow the instructions, fill up all the information and then click "Create Group Trip". And this is how it looks like when you're done...

4) Now you can invite your trip mates to join and from this Group Profile page, you can check the RSVP/Status of your trip mates. And the good thing is, this tool will send reminder to those who didn't respond.

5) And if you still have not set the date of the trip, you can generate a poll by clicking on the "Date Poll" bar. You can choose to send reminder to trip mates when the timeline is over.

6) Go to "Itinerary" to select the start-end date if everyone has finalized on the date, or draft an itinerary for each day of your trip.

7) Next you can use the "Topics" tool to raise questions about the things that need attention from all. Here you can talk about accommodations, budget, activities, etc..

8) Then assign tasks to the people in the group by clicking on the "Tasks" bar.

9) I like this "Bookmarks" tool a lot, because whenever you surf the website for related information, you can actually bookmark the page right away without having to search from the "Favourites" in your Browser. And it is so convinient because everyone in the group can share the same information. It eases decision making!

10) To install the Bookmarks tool, click on the Add Button to Bookmark "On The Fly" and follow instructions given. When it is done, you will see this button in your Browser under "Favourites".

Example for bookmarking a page to your Triporama page:

And the page will appear in your Bookmarks list as shown in #9 above.

11) Lastly you can proceed to post "Messages" to your trip mates. Subject can be chosen. I usually post things that we have agreed and confirmed for everyone's attention. It can be a discussion board for the group, and also act as a record for desicions made.

Planning a trip is easy if you are going alone, but it is a big headache if it involves people from different places. I'm so relieved now as most of our items are done, and we just need to click on the booking buttons to pay for our reservations! And I can't wait to be there sOoN!

A two cents advice: it is always better to plan ahead for accommodations and your itinerary before departure in order to save time and avoid paying even higher price for walk-ins. Especially when you are travelling in a group, looking for a suitable place to stay during your trip may not be that ideal. If you did not do earlier reservation, you might end up having to move from one place to another everyday. That will drag your time in searching for another one, and also wasting time on packing and unpacking; worse comes to worst, missed the schedule for your activities.

The tallest skyscraper in the world ~ Burj Dubai

One thing I love about architecture - man build wonders! Even the "old-eight-tonne" geographic of Shanghai can support so many highrise buildings such as JIN MAO TOWER.

Have you ever try to imagine to imagine yourself standing at the top floor of a building over 600 meters high? JIN MAO TOWER is already 421 meters high!

And that you need to look for a lift button up to 3 digits? It's nearly 200....

And that when you reach the 110th floor, you have stepped under your feet the largest number of floors in any building in the world! *puzzled*

Let me present you BURJ DUBAI, the world's tallest skyscrapper today!

In time to come, you will see buildings in the clouds....is this call HEAVEN? Well, this is part of the Burj Dubai Downtown layout. So if you think that you are hopeless to squeeze into the gates of heaven, migrate and stay in Dubai.

And here's the bird's eye view of the whole town layout. Amazingly COOL!

Dubai claimed that it is going to have the largest number of supertalls with 7 under developement and 5 new towers will be announced with over 100 storeys.

Find out more about this man-built wonder here. I recommend you to read an interesting interview with the creator of Burj Dubai, Adrian Smith, on Khaleej Times.

But before that just take another look at this great BURJ.... This picture is taken from the upper most Girders.... Look at the edge (uppermost right corner) of the picture, you can almost see the turn of the earth. So if you are working on construction of this amazing skyscraper, you can actually see the "ROTATION OF EARTH"!

So terrifying.... Are your legs shaky right now?

New era of PC - I want ONE too!!

Ever wonder how handy can our laptop be? Like a PDA? Now just take a look at this!

All it takes - only 5 pens...

5 elegantly designed pen. What to do with these??!

"Ok, wait a minute. I'm a Transformer you know?"

"Transformers....there you go!"

"Yea, don't drop your jaw..."

"See? You don't even need to buy a keyboard!"

Amazing right?!! Then we can bring it along anytime anywhere with lower risk of getting stolen. And life as a blogger will be even merrier. =D

Fishy fishy I lurve you~ (My Redang vacation journal #2)

I had spectacular experiences of snorkeling and fish hunting with the gang. We learned a lesson for not bringing along an underwater digicam for the first day, and we missed out so many nice shots during our snorkeling trips. The corals and fishes...and one of the divers caught a NEMO! Arrgghhh... So we decided to rent one with a 256MB memory stick in the very next day before we set off for Marine Park.

Hammocking after breakfast (kind of lazy to move...)

Gears on and ready to go

How do you like the emerald waters of Pulau Redang? We are loving it!!

We spent 2 hours at the Marine Park in Pulau Pinang (not my hometown Penang Island!) of Terengganu. This is a "compulsory" spot for most packages I think, as the place was so so so cRowDed!!! You can see different colours of life jackets, indicating groups of visitors from different resorts.

Feel like in heaven? It's an effect caused by water on the lens...

Fishes plus humans!!! The whole area was almost covered by this two species on the earth. The fishes are definitely not afraid of human. They will pinch on you especially if you are holding some food (rotten breads and stinky dead fish provided by the lifeguards to feed the fishes). I felt so IRRITATED swimming in a "sea of humans", because anytime you might ended up being hit by a diving fin, or somebody's elbow, or even somebody's LEG!!! I felt like being squeezed like a sponge in the Marine Park...ouccchhhhh-----

Yikes! Fish attack!!! OMG~

It's another world here....a peaceful world

2 snorkelers floating away

I love the underwater world!!

All of a sudden, you might get fish attack...again!!

Was I floating?!!

Give you a flying underwater kiss...muaahhh

Steve, Cheryl, CH & Lorraine...we look so weird

However we were lucky enough to see the “so-called celebrities” of the island – a yellow Belut, baby sharks and guess what, I TOUCHED A TURTLE during snorkeling!!!

"Hmm...I gotta sneak out and look for food."

"Oh no! Caught in the act!"

"See me not. See me not...I'm pretending to be dead."

Here comes the interesting part! A turtle!!!

It's was terrified and kept struggling

So we set it free after a moment

This is one of my favourite underwater shots

The sun was killing me...and I already looked like a Red Indian. I dipped myself in the waters most of the time in the second day (even after lunch at 12.30pm....crazily in love with the aquamarine sea) and my SPF30 sunblock was not functioning anymore!! I like this second snorkeling trip because there were only 10 of us on the boat. It's like going out to the sea in a private boat.

So we went back to the shore for lunch, and then back for snorkeling again and again. So the photos are all snorkeling photos as you may see. In Pulau Redang, it's either you keep on soaking inside the sea or you can enjoy hanging on a hammock and get a nice afternoon nap.

Hmm...who dropped his brown wig?

My holiday is about eating and playing in the water

Fishy fishy do you like me?

I can pretend to be one too...see?

Before dinner time, we were still swimming and playing in the water. The lifeguards said if we're lucky enough, we'll find baby sharks around. And I guess we'll win the lottery if we bought one!

A black tip baby shark frightened by us and swam away

I stole some dead corals....it's actually a violation

And so our night time was spent walking on the beach and watching people having party in the other resorts. Some people were giving free entertainment...just listen to their 'sweet-o-voice' coming out from the amplifier and I bet the fishes would wish that they are deaf...and me too!!

We had a drink at the Tupai Bar at Laguna. The feeling was great. Life band, candle lights, and sweet desserts. There will be performance every night and the Philipinos' voice are really solid and cool! They can sing in almost any language.

I looked so darn red

A banana boat

Great temptation

Every resort has their own style of entertaining their guests; some were having Ladies’ Night I guess, because the beach was turned into a discothèque. We thought of singing karaoke in the bar of our resort but the bar tender said, “Sorry…all booked.” We were late… the aunties and uncles brought their own karaoke vcd and so we were ‘entertained’ with oldies for the whole night long…

You like my little bottle of sand?
